There are different types of 3d printers on the market. Which type to choose from though? Should you go cartesian, delta, or another type of printer? If you want the best delta printer, I would personally recommend the FLSUN Q5.

A delta 3d printer is easy to understand. The easiest way to know if it’s a 3d printer is by looking at its “arms”. The arms of a printer are the parts that shape your design. They’re literally the components closest to the design. Think of them as the construction workers who are building the product.


The delta printer will have 3 arms, and each one will be able to move up and down independently. 


Delta printers have 3 arms to support the extruder. For those who don’t know, the extruder is one of the main components in a 3d printer. It’s responsible for melting and pushing the filament out.


Since each arm can move independently, the extruder can cover a wide area of the printing bed. 

What Are The Advantages With A Delta Printer?

You might be wondering why even bother with a delta printer. Well, as the title says, there are advantages. 

Delta printers are designed to print fast. If you look at a delta printer long enough you will notice it looks bare. A lot of what you see are the frames and the printing bed. 

This bare design is due to the extruders and motors being located on the sides and top of the design. Just look at how the arms move up and down. They rely on the 3 frames they’re attached to for their movement.


This minimalist style generates speed and accuracy. Who doesn’t want that?


If you compare delta printers and other printers, you might notice a difference between beds too. Delta printer beds are shaped like a circle. Other 3d printer beds are shaped like squares. This circular frame means it doesn’t have to move linearly. This another way it saves time printing.

What Are The Disadvantages With A Delta Printer?

Delta printers do have their disadvantages though. One disadvantage is it can’t print objects that have large surfaces for 1 reason.


The main reason is because of its build. Delta printers are built to have height instead of width. This vertical build allows the arms to move up and down. Delta printers have the ability to cover a wide range of its area, but not compared to other types of printers.


Another disadvantage is the precision. I mentioned precision a lot in my miniature post, but precision matters no matter what you’re printing. What delta printers gain in speed, they lose in precision.


The final disadvantage I’d like to mention is its Bowden style extrusion. This extrusion limits the type of filament a delta printer can use. Being able to use different filaments lets you get more creative, and some filaments work better than others. Being limited limits your creativity.

What To Look For In A Delta Printer?

The criteria for buying a delta printer isn’t different from other printers. The criteria for a 3d printer I would use comes down to 3 things.

This printer’s features make it super convenient for consumers. A common problem for 3d printers is filament sticking to the printing bed. The lattice platform takes care of this by making it easy to lift your prints off the bed easily.


The 2 other features I liked are the auto-leveling model and resume printing. 


The auto calibration feature settles the bed leveling for you. Resume printing works like a checkpoint where you have the option to save the print and continue it for later. Being able to save your work no matter where it is makes life easier.


Another way they make this printer easy to use is with the instructions. Their instructions are step-by-step with video.


A common benchmark for print quality is the small boat, also known as “3DBenchy”. This test is a good demonstration to see how a specific 3d printer deals with a complex print. From the reviews I saw, this printer had no glaring mistakes. The quality was good, and it worked great on other complex prints.


A few cons I have noticed aren’t that bad. One of those cons is its noise when printing. It’s definitely not subtle when printing, but it doesn’t take your head off either. The second con is the build plate damages easily. Don’t rip your designs off the plate forcefully!


Nonetheless, this is a great option for anyone interested in 3d printers. Both beginners and professionals will enjoy this printer. It’s affordable, and the set up is easy. This printer gives you all the tools you need to make printing easy.

Monoprice Mini Delta

I reviewed this printer for miniature prints and believed in it from the onset. And that opinion hasn’t changed. Any printer that passes benchmark tests like the “3DBenchy” test with flying colors deserves recognition.


There are no noticeable mistakes besides the occasional bumps. But, those bumps aren’t noticeable. Only when you’re holding it right next to your eye can you see those differences. With a layer height of 0.10 mm layer height you can expect detailed prints.


This printer is for entry-level buyers. It’s ready out of the box, and when I say ready, I mean all you have to do is plug it in and it’s ready to print. 


Another feature is its portability. I personally wouldn’t want to carry it around because I don’t plan on printing anything while outside, but, having that option is nice. 


You also have auto-leveling which makes your life easier. Having to calibrate the bed each time wastes time, and who really wants to do that?


One problem I’ve seen consumers regularly have with this printer is connectivity. Whether it’s connecting through USB or WiFi, the connectivity problem persists.


A quality printer that doesn’t cost much and provides a lot of cool features is what this printer is all about. I would get this for sure.

Frankensbox FX-800

The Frankensbox has a plug and play set up which makes it easy for the buyer. One way they made this printer easy to use is by installing the auto bed leveling feature.


This printer offers multiple connectivity options by USB, WiFi, and through SD card. Some of the other features I liked were the automatic filament loader and resume feature. The automatic filament loader comes with anti-jam tech to ensure no interruption when printing.


Similar to the other printers on this list, you’re getting a printer that makes using it convenient. A few things that bothered me were its software and support.


The slicing software is recognized as malware for antivirus software, and the support for this printer wasn’t the best. Thankfully, a lot of the issues that could cause problems are addressed with some of the features they have.


The Frankensbox is no slouch in the printing department either. It was created for beginners in mind, and they sure do make it easy to print high quality designs. 


It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or professional, anyone can get value out of this printer. It passes all benchmark tests and it can also use a variety of materials to print.


If you decide to get this printer, you’ll be getting one of the newer printers on the market.

Monoprice Delta PRO 3D Printer

The Monoprice Delta Pro is another good option. I think of this 3d printer as the little brother of the Mini Delta. One reason why is I don’t think it’s better with print quality. Doing my research, I’ve noticed that this printer doesn’t round out the filament.


There’s still some stringing left on some of the prints. Whenever a printer does this I find it hard to trust with complex prints.


Positive features include auto bed leveling, touch screen interface, simple-swap hotend, and a sensor for low filament to name a few.


A filament sensor is similar to the low battery sign. It tells you when you’re low on printing material. The simple-swap hotend makes it easy to change the hotend. Combining this with the touch screen interface makes things easier for the buyer.


The easy interface and easy set up appeal to entry-level buyers. The downside to this printer is its price. It’s definitely not the cheapest option for its quality.


Another negative thing is the filament sensor. It looks like it interrupts the flow of filament into the printer. It doesn’t help that it’s loud too. 

Although I hit you with all the negative points, this is still a solid option for entry-level printers.

A downside for this printer is it’s limited on what filaments it can use. The filaments it can use are PLA and ABS.


For a delta printer, the precision is solid. You get a precision of 0.1mm which is good enough for miniature printing. Overall, the printing quality gets mixed reviews if you’re looking for professional prints.


Generally, professional printing doesn’t only require consistent quality, it requires consistent quality for complex prints. I wouldn’t recommend this for engineers doing this for work, but hobbyists should definitely give this a look.


This means the same print should have the same exact details. For hobbyists, this printer is great. It has little zits here and there, but I would recommend this for anyone looking for delta printers.


A cool feature is it comes fully assembled. You can also upgrade the extruder for different filaments. 


This printer is also compatible with different devices. You can use this printer with desktops, laptops, and tablets. The controller box is also touch screen. A lot of the features for this printer provides a lot of convenience. 


It’s hard to call this printer entry-level because its price, but it’s still one of the best delta printers.

What Is The Best Delta Printer?

To be honest, a lot of these printers are the same. My personal preference is the FLSUN Q5 Delta 3D Printer because it has all the qualities I’m looking for.


Those qualities of affordability, features, and print quality are all there with this printer. Every printer on this list offers a lot of the same features with great quality though. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
